About Us

Our mission

We work to humanize the system of medical and psychological assistance to people in places of confinement.

  1. Documentation activities
    The organization systematically documents violations of the right to medical and psychological care in Belarusian places of detention. This work has been carried out since 2021.
  2. Collection of individual testimonies
  • Interviews with former prisoners, their relatives, and medical professionals.
  • Detailed recording of cases of:
    • denial of medical assistance;
    • lack of access to essential medicines;
    • violations in the provision of psychiatric and psychological care;
    • consequences of torture and isolation.

Special attention is given to at-risk groups: women, children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.

  1. Thematic reports and analysis
  • Publication of thematic reports (e.g., on pre-trial detention centers, prison medicine, women prisoners).
  • Reports include:
    • legal analysis;
    • statistics;
    • international standards (UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, CPT, WHO).

They are used in international advocacy and for reform preparation.

  1. Psychological diaries and testimonies
    Subjective experiences are documented, including through:
  • first-person narratives;
  • dreams, drawings, letters;
  • post-traumatic symptoms.

They are used in research projects and to develop recommendations for specialists working with survivors.

Goals of documentation:
1. Record violations for history and justice.
2. Support international pressure on the regime.
3. Help victims themselves gain a voice and legal protection.
4. Prepare the foundation for prison medicine and psychology reform in the post-repressive period.
