Collection of Expert Articles from the Conference “The Face of Prison Is Not Female”

In the 21st century, when humanity speaks seriously about rights, dignity, and equality, thousands of women in Belarus live under different rules—those dictated by a closed, harsh, and degrading penitentiary system.

This collection is the result of multidisciplinary analytical work by experts in medicine, law, psychology, and penitentiary practice. Its purpose is to provide reliable, verified, and structured information on the situation of women deprived of liberty in the Republic of Belarus.

The materials cover a wide range of issues: from compliance with international and national standards for the treatment of women prisoners to access to healthcare, reproductive and mental health services, as well as conditions of detention. Particular attention is paid to the psychological consequences of imprisonment and the systemic barriers women face after their release.
